Basement contents restoration focuses on the belongings affected by basement flooding – furniture, storage boxes, documents, and personal items that were sitting in the space when water came in. Basements are where a lot of households store things they don't use daily, which often means water damage there affects sentimental items, important documents, or seasonal belongings that people are especially motivated to save if at all possible.
This service matters whenever a basement flood has affected stored belongings, whether that's furniture that got wet, cardboard boxes that absorbed water and are falling apart, photographs or documents that were stored in the affected area, or larger items like appliances or electronics that were in the basement when it flooded. Not everything can be saved, but a lot more can be salvaged with prompt, proper treatment than most homeowners expect.
We start by assessing each affected item to determine what can realistically be cleaned and restored versus what's too damaged to save. For furniture and hard-surface items, we clean and dry them using appropriate methods for the material involved. For documents and photographs, we use specialized drying techniques that can often save items people assume are a total loss if we're able to get to them quickly. Fabric items and upholstered furniture get assessed for whether cleaning and drying is realistic given contamination level and how long they were wet. We pack and organize saved items clearly so you know what's been restored and what wasn't salvageable, rather than returning everything in a jumbled, unclear state.
Cost depends on the volume and type of items affected, with document and photo restoration typically priced differently than furniture and general belongings. Homes in Des Moines, IA with basements used for long-term storage often have more volume to assess than a lightly used space, which affects overall project time.
